At the time of writing, the bewildering journey of Brexit is ongoing. Several rounds of rejections and extensions have occurred since we last wrote about Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU) in the Autumn issue of Make Your Mark, culminating in a special meeting of the European Council, at which a flexible extension was agreed.
As a result, exit day is now set for 11pm on 31 October 2019. However, if both the European Commission and the UK ratify the Withdrawal Agreement before 31 October 2019, then Brexit will take place on the first day of the month following the date of ratification, and the extension will be terminated. Also, there’s a chance that the Government might decide to call the whole thing off, as the UK has a right to revoke its notification under Article 50 at any time and cancel Brexit altogether.
